This program is taught exclusively in English.
This program offers a more theory-intensive, less hands-on experience than our training program. It's designed for those who want to deeply understand how everything works but can't get away to Patagonia for a month due to work or family commitments.
It combines theoretical classes with guided inductions across the different areas of the farm. Over five days, participants dive into each area, guided by our production team, gaining real, up-to-date knowledge of the entire production process. In the nursery, for example, we'll teach you the theory behind seeding and healthy seedling growth, and show you how to use the tools involved in the process — substrate preparation, seeding by hand or with the drop seeder, amendments, electrical conductivity monitoring, and irrigation — but you won't spend an entire day seeding as you would in the training program.
Itinerary
The program begins with your arrival on Monday afternoon. After settling into your tent, we'll take a guided tour of the farm, followed by an introduction to the MGI biointensive method.
From Tuesday through Friday, the daily routine follows the same structure: the day starts at eight, with a theoretical class in the morning, followed by an induction and an extended hands-on session before lunch; in the afternoon, a second induction is followed by fieldwork until dinner.
Tuesday is dedicated to soil: fertility, compost, bed preparation and turning, cultivation tools, and weed management.
Wednesday covers propagation: seedlings, tray seeding and direct seeding, field transplanting, and a demonstration of the irrigation system.
Thursday focuses on crop management: pest and disease identification and control, biopesticide application, and harvest, packing, and post-harvest handling.
Friday closes with the business side: scope and design of a commercial market garden, crop planning and calendars, and financial management and business viability, ending with a closing dinner for the program.
Hands-on sessions include bed preparation techniques, weed control, tool handling (including the BCS walk-behind tractor and its implements), irrigation systems, greenhouse ventilation, direct seeding with the Jang Seeder, manual transplanting and the Paperpot system, nursery management, composting, and soil management.
This is a real production farm, not a demonstration site — everything we teach is something we actively do.
The program concludes with dedicated time for questions, reflection, and discussion, giving participants a practical, realistic, and applicable understanding of commercial vegetable farming — ideal for those looking to validate, launch, or deepen a productive market garden project.
